Penicillin Streptomycin Solution 10,000 Units /mL Penicillin, 10,000 µg/mL Streptomycin in 0.85% NaCl

An antibacterial and antimycobacterial reagent.
- Broad spectrum bacteriostatic with activity against gram negative and gram positive organisms
- Penicillin interferes with the final stage of synthesis of the bacterial cell wall
- Streptomycin, through protein synthesis, inhibits elongation at transpeptidation step; binds to 30S subunit causing misreading
- Common working concentration for Penicillin is 100 U/mL; for Streptomycin: 100 μg/mL

Used as an antibacterial and antimycobacterial agent.

Key Features
Content Concentration: Each 1 mL solution contains 10,000 units of penicillin and 10,000 μg of streptomycin (in 0.85% NaCl).
Concentration Ratio: 100X (Added to cell culture medium after dilution at a ratio of 1:100).
Working Concentration: The final recommended concentration in the prepared medium is 100 U/mL for penicillin and 100 μg/mL for streptomycin.

Mechanism of Action
This combination provides bidirectional protection against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria:
- Penicillin: Exhibits bactericidal effect by interfering with the final stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis.
- Streptomycin: Binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, preventing elongation (transpeptidation) during protein synthesis and leading to misreading of the genetic code.
